Did you spot him? Need a closer look.....? Anyway, we musn't let Derrick dominate....
Here's Derrick hanging out with some friends.
Here is one of the markers from the orienteering (which we were doing by the way). Ooh look - there's Derrick again!! Photobomb!
Derrick being ace and some kid doing something.
Anyway, with Derrick packed away for a little rest in Mrs Lockwood's bag and with our orienteering skills secured we ventured out into the wilderness. There was some stunning scenery.....
'So which way is it?' *cue fingers pointing in different directions!
Yooooo hoo!
Happy orienteerers!
Howdy!
A stunning stone bridge -a fantastic morning activity with the children showing some great skills with their ordinance survey maps.
We found this superb sculpture which served as a great shelter from the baking sun.
These circular windows made for a great seat for lunch / space to lounge around / pose / sleep.
Derrick was very full after his dinner.
Wistful sandwich time....
The only way to relax, post-sandwich....
What a great morning! Now it was on to our next activity at the reservoir - raft building! The first task - to carry the equipment to the water.....
We had some unorthordox transportation methods....
Then back up for more equipment! Look at those smiles - that's the spirit!
The first stage: planning!
Our instructor Becky allowed us five questions which were mostly used up with questions like:
"Really?"
"Five questions?!"
"Seriously?!"
Fortunately, we discovered a knot tying expert in our midst! All those hours at Scouts had clearly paid off.....
Our knot master trained up the others and took on the role of foreman...
Finally, we were ready....
It worked!
We briefly entered black and white (and red) land again!
They seemed pretty confident.... But could they stand up?!
Yes - it would appear they can!
Those who could levitate, did.
Those who had jet boots, used them.
This picture really sums up the day! Soaking wet, big smile and two thumbs up!
Derrick was beat. He slept all the way back to the centre on the mini-bus. Before he dozed off, he spoke of how proud he was of all of the children today for giving the activities their all. I have to agree with Derrick - he is our mascot after all.
